What is Krav Maga

SO, WHAT IS KRAV MAGA?

Beginnings of Krav Maga go back to pre-WW2 era in Europe where Nazis start to oppress Jews in Czechoslovakia.

A Hungarian born Jew Imi Lichtenfeld is not going to have it and starts resistance with his friends, fighting back on the streets of Bratislava.

Imi, a talented and already accomplished athlete who is on Czechoslovakia’s National Wrestling team quickly realizes that what he has learned in wrestling and boxing is simply not enough to be effective on the streets against multiple and often armed attackers.

He starts to develop new system known today as Krav Maga (Contact Combat).

When Israeli State is born in 1948 Imi is offered position of a Chief Hand-to-hand Combat Instructor in Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

For the next 16 years Krav Maga is a top secret of IDF where it’s being further developed and battle tested.

In 1964 Imi retires from IDF and opens his own Krav Maga Gym in Netanya where he adopts Krav Maga to civilian and law enforcement needs.

Quickly Krav Maga spreads around the world.

Today Krav Maga is known to be the best defensive and offensive system ever developed that is based on natural instincts, simultaneous defense and counter-attack while utilizing “retzev” (continuous motion) concept.

Krav Maga adopted wrestling, boxing, Aikido, Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and other Martial Arts techniques and modified them where necessary for maximum effectiveness.

Krav Maga is used by Special Forces and Military Units, Law Enforcement Agencies and civilians around the world.

But, please, don’t take my word for it and visit one of Performance Krav Maga locations to experience it for yourself.
